Current Project

StreetSmarts is a high-performance camera system that detects, classifies and interprets street signs from a moving vehicle. The project is currently in development and uses a very low-cost Raspberry Pi processing board ($10) with an embedded GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) to process images from a moving vehicle in real-time. Once speed limit sign detection and interpretation are working reliably, the project will attempt to detect and interpret other obstacles a moving vehicle may encounter.
